Clarice Rutherford obtained an MS in English and a BS in Animal Science from Colorado State University. She was employed at the CSU Animal Care Center for many years. A former obedience instructor and breeder/exhibitor of Labrador Retrievers, she is the co-author of four books and a video.

David H. Neil received his MRCVS degree from the University of Liverpool and was in private veterinary practice in England for several years before coming to the USA.
